Hiking Highlight

Duke Charles III had it built in the 17th century to reinforce and strengthen the city's defenses. It was then surrounded by four bastions and separated from the Porte de la Craffe by moats. Today, the gate demarcates the Old Town district and the Faubourg des Trois Maisons. The rampart on one side is topped by a medieval-inspired garden.

Like the Porte de la Craffe, the Porte de la Citadelle has two completely different sides. It's quite small and inconspicuous, as described in the highlight, from the Old Town (Rue Sellier) (as the added highlight images show). It's grand from the Rue Henri Deglin side (my added highlight image). Parts of the fortification wall and the old ramparts are also visible.
