Located on the north slope of Mount Tongariro about 550 m below its summit the Ketehahi Hot Springs are a highlight of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

These hot springs are often puffing steam and gases that are visible 10s km away. The most active vent is a 'blowhole' with an opening 4.5 m (15 feet) in diameter. The Ketehahi Hot Springs were free to visit until 1996 but the area is now closed to the public for safety reasons.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing passes the Ketehahi Hot Springs at a distance of 300 m. However, the Hot Springs are arguably best-seen from this trail when you are about 1 km below the Springs looking up Mount Tongariro.
