For centuries, a church and monastery, each with exceptional cultural and historical treasures, have stood on Kostanjevica Hill, which towers over both Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Kostanjevica is primarily known for the Bourbon Crypt, where the last descendants of this French royal family, including the last French king, Charles X, rest in stone sarcophagi. The monastery also houses a valuable library named after the priest and linguist Stanislav Škrabec, and the monastery garden is known for its beautiful Bourbon roses.
