The Landwehr or Landhemme was created in the Middle Ages to protect the Neubrandenburger Feldmark. It consisted of a heaped earth wall with ditches on both sides and had special barriers at the road passages. The wall usually carried a thick thorn bushes. Today, about 4 km of the Landwehr can still be seen in the area between Nemerower wood and Lindetal.
