Originally, 57 Wiekhäuser were embedded in Neubrandenburg's ramparts at intervals of approx. 30 meters, in so-called Wieken and originally served to defend the city in the Middle Ages, as the wall had no battlements. With the advent of firearms, they lost their function and were converted into dwellings. In the northern section of the ramparts, in the area of the 1st ring road, two Wiek towers were reconstructed in their original form as defensive towers.
