This path is the only access in the southern area of the village and is called Porte d'Ardenne. In the Middle Ages, this section of the fortress was vulnerable and was therefore often attacked. Unfortunately, all that remains of the old defense system are deep cuts in the masonry in which the former protective gates were attached.

The castle that we discover at the top of the main square is actually a new building, despite its majestic facade with countless details. It was built in 1910 by Mr. Jean Poswick and is built at right angles. It is privately owned and is undoubtedly one of the jewels of the village.

The Porte d'Ardenne, a strategic point in the fortifications that close the southern wall, is the only access to the fortress without natural defenses. The castle used to consist of a building framed by two large round towers and a paved passageway through them. In 1703 the castle made way for two houses built on its ruins, which were combined into one building after 1723. The building, purchased by J.G. Poswick, underwent several renovations carried out between 1880 and 1910 by the architect Ch. Thirion.

Now it is a large limestone building in eclectic style that stands out in the landscape of the old town. In the park, protected by 18th-century wrought-iron fences, the terraces and walls of the old fortifications are still clearly visible. Various old parts have found their place in the now peaceful garden.

The characterful house remained within the Poswick family until 2015, after which it fell into the hands of a Limburg enthusiast, Mr Schieffler.
