Rathausplatz Monument, Kostrzyn Fortress

The largest Old Town Square in the Kostrzyn Fortress. Originally, the City Hall stood next to it, and in the center there was a monument commemorating the fallen soldiers during the German unification fights of 1864-1871. In Kostrzyn, the units of the Kostrzyn garrison fighting in the unification wars were particularly honored. To commemorate their efforts and those of the whole of Germany, an appropriate facility was erected in the very center of the then Kostrzyn, on the Old Town Square. Similar monuments were erected in Szumiłów and Drzewice (now districts of Kostrzyn). There is no trace of the monument in the Old Town and the monument in Szumiłów. The monument in Drzewice was preserved in a damaged condition. The obelisk, the remains of which are currently located on the Town Hall Square, is the monument from Drzewice that was transported to the Kostrzyn Fortress Market Square in 2023.
