The Bastion King is powerful. As Kostrzyn historians emphasize, it is the largest and oldest bastion of the Kostrzyn fortress preserved to this day. It is also the oldest such bastion in Poland and an important monument on a European scale.
The origins of this monumental building date back to the 16th century (1568–1571). It was then that John Hohenzollern (also called John of Kostrzyn) decided to transform the city into a fortress. Initially, a bastion was built in this place, the loopholes of which have survived to this day. Since then, the bastion has been transformed into a bastion and rebuilt at least a dozen times over the centuries. This can be seen on the walls of the underground building. Different types of bricks, carved or bricked doors, use of various construction techniques.
Currently, the building is in a disastrous condition. For several years, tourists have not been allowed to enter not only the interior of the bastion, but also its surface, i.e. where, until 2009, there was a cemetery of Red Army soldiers and a huge obelisk.
