The Goose Girl

(Location: Coburger Straße after the underpass)

In order to get the job as gooseherd at the royal court, a poor farmer's daughter disguised herself as a boy. One day she returned early from the pasture because the geese were disturbed by voices from the forest. Alarmed by this news, the king sent his guard into the forest. At the last moment they were able to overpower robber barons who wanted to attack the castle. Out of gratitude, the king sent the gooseherd's family a bag of money. However, when the king learned that the farmer's daughter had disappeared, he realized who the gooseherd really was. He had grown fond of the clever and pretty girl and so a wedding was soon celebrated.
