The Baroque pilgrimage basilica Vierzehnheiligen was built by the famous architect Balthasar Neumann and was extensively renovated just a few years ago. From the 15th century to the present day, pilgrims are looking for the fourteenth-saint, one of the most famous places of pilgrimage, to seek the protection of the 14 helpers. Back then, more than 500 years ago, a shepherd had an appearance that was to become the cornerstone of one of the most famous pilgrimage churches in Bavaria. The basilica was built in the 18th century - it is one of the most important baroque buildings in Bavaria.

The tiny place Vierzehnheiligen actually consists of only a handful of buildings, the towering baroque basilica, the monastery, a brewery with delicious beers, two other inns, the diocesan house and a household school.

Little story on the edge:
Balthasar Neuman promised to build the basilica in the planning of Vierzehnheiligen so that Banz Monastery would fit into the building's door. After completion, of course, the clients were disappointed. The size of the basilica is by no means oversized. Or do you think there is room in the door for Kloster Banz?
In fact, the monastery has room in it! If you look from the high altar through the door, you look at the opposite monastery. Balthasar Neumann had thus kept his promise: Banz Monastery fits into the door of the Basilica Vierzehnheiligen.

The Vierzehnheiligen basilica is a well-known pilgrimage church. The house of God, built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann, is consecrated to the fourteen Holy Helpers, fourteen saints from the second to fourth centuries.
The basilica, built between 1743 and 1772, with its 75-meter-high towers that can be seen from afar has a late Baroque facade, but the exuberant interior design is in the Rococo style. In architecture there are relatively few buildings whose style can be clearly assigned to the Rococo. In the interior design, the dividing elements are dispensed with, instead the boundaries of the individual parts of the room are blurred with the help of decorative ornaments and shell shapes. The Rococo altar with the fourteen helpers in need stands free in the middle of the nave. The light that comes in indirectly through many windows contributes to the special atmosphere of the room.

Unfortunately, the front is covered by a scaffold. The basilica may be entered with a mask.

Gigantic building from the middle, not at the end of the 18th century. Late Baroque façade, corresponding to the monastery Banz above the valley; the interior is completely rococo. Even if you do not like something like this: Do not miss!
The unusual for a church interior design and altar arrangement sprang from the lamination of a plan deviation.
