The tiny town of Vierzehnheiligen actually consists of just a handful of buildings, the towering baroque basilica, the monastery, a brewery with delicious beers, two other inns, the diocesan house and a home economics school.
The baroque pilgrimage basilica of the Fourteen Saints was built by the famous architect Balthasar Neumann and was extensively renovated just a few years ago. From the 15th century to the present day, pilgrims have come to the Fourteen Saints, one of the most famous pilgrimage sites, to ask for the protection of the 14 Holy Helpers. Back then, more than 500 years ago, a shepherd had an apparition that was to become the cornerstone of one of the most famous pilgrimage churches in Bavaria. The basilica was built in the 18th century - it is one of the most important baroque buildings in Bavaria.

Little story on the edge:
Balthasar Neuman promised to build the basilica in the planning of Vierzehnheiligen so that Banz Monastery would fit into the building's door. After completion, of course, the clients were disappointed. The size of the basilica is by no means oversized. Or do you think there is room in the door for Kloster Banz?
In fact, the monastery has room in it! If you look from the high altar through the door, you look at the opposite monastery. Balthasar Neumann had thus kept his promise: Banz Monastery fits into the door of the Basilica Vierzehnheiligen.
