Lichtenfels' new work of art, directly on the market square

A very extravagant work of art, which is supposed to be reminiscent of the art of braiding.

The Franconian municipality of Lichtenfels looks back on a long tradition of basket weaving. In 2018, Peter Haimerl won the competition for the new building of the Archive of the Future with an unconventional concept: Two house-high willows made of steel refer to the basket weavers' original material and decorate the historic market square between the town hall and the half-timbered houses as a unique eye-catcher. The actual building is completely understated architecturally. The structure, which is stepped towards the fire wall of the neighboring house, is largely dematerialized by its all-glass facade.
