This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association.
"As [its] name indicates, in earlier times there was a fire place for woodworkers here (Eitelmann, p. 69). [...] The fire place is located directly on the border of the forest departments that belong to Flemlingen and Hainfeld. An Several forest paths converge here. [...]
Not far from the Ritterstein there is a boundary stone that shows the course of the Haingeraide border. There are numerous other boundary stones in the surrounding area. From the fire place, a forest path [hiking mark "red cross"] leads directly to the cherry tree. There the path meets the route of today’s elevated road again.”
