From the new Heringsdorf pier you can see the remains of the previous building in the water. The 500 meter long Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge was built from wood between 1891 and 1893 and was equipped with turrets and colonnades. There were restaurants and shops here. About ten years after its inauguration, it was expanded to include a jetty. However, the old Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge fell victim to two fires after the Second World War: its bridgehead burned down in 1946, and eleven years later a fire - probably arson - destroyed the land section. In 1995 it was replaced by the new pier.
