In the Prussian period after the Congress of Vienna, at the latest in the 1830s, there was a second-class postal expedition in Freyburg. In the German Empire, this was converted into an imperial post office and in 1890 this received a new building east of the old town on Jahnplatz. As early as 1912, however, a new building was built, this time in the south of the city on the previously breached former city wall in the waterway in front of the former Napoleon's gate.
