The profession of gooseherd was once considered simple – or even unprestigious. If a boy wasn't keeping up in school, people would say, "You're still enough to be a gooseherd." But it is precisely its significance for daily life that demonstrates how vital this work was. In his honor, a bronze statue of the gooseherd, created by the renowned sculptor Karl-Ulrich Nuss, was erected at Stiegelplatz in 1987. It commemorates this almost forgotten but lovable figure in local history.
