This monument (recently restored) is the only national monument erected in honour of the resistance fighters of 1940-1945. It is the work of architect Paul Étienne and sculptor Louis Dupont. It was inaugurated on 8 May 1955. The group of statues on the left represents the armed resistance, the one on the right the intellectual resistance. The choice of Liège – and Wallonia… – as a location was explained by the leading role played by some of its citizens in the resistance against the occupier.
