'Kyichu Lhakhang' is located in the valley of the 'Paro Chhu' and is considered the oldest surviving Buddhist temple in Bhutan. It was probably founded in the 7th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the temple was restored and new pavilions were added. The citrus trees in the temple's courtyard are said to bear fruit all year round.

Kyichu Lhakhang is a pagoda-style Buddhist temple located in the Paro district of western Bhutan. Likely founded in the 7th century by Songtsen Gampo, it is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Bhutan, dedicated to taming the Giant Demon. Kyichu Lhakhang is particularly known for its ancient Bodhisattva statues in the sanctuary.

The temple grounds contain two temples of identical design. The older temple was built by King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. It gained further historical significance in the 13th century when it was placed under the administration of the Drukpa clan. The temple strengthened Buddhist influence in the region.

The second temple was built in 1968. It is an exact replica of the first 7th-century temple. The interiors of both temples are richly decorated and adorned.
