The castle is surrounded by gardens and parks. The property was first mentioned in 1242. It is assumed that it was once a fortified mansion of the von Tümpling family, which appears several times in Jena documents from the 14th century onwards.
The small estate belonging to the manor was expropriated in 1945 and distributed to resettlers in accordance with the land reform laws.

In 1993 the castle was purchased by direct descendants of the Tümplings and reconstruction began immediately. The von Tümpling family days took place here in 1997, 2008 and 2019.
