The prosperity and self-confidence of the town and its citizens were reflected in the elaborate and prestigious building with its tower and oriel windows.
Initially, the town hall was used exclusively as an entertainment venue. It wasn't until 1909 that rooms were created for the mayor and the police.
A complete renovation of the building, begun in 2005, was completed in 2010.
