The southwest corner of the Aschersleber city fortifications near the shore of the former once represented an area with increased potential for danger. This required special protective measures, which were implemented in 1436 in the form of a mighty, 12 meter high bulwark with walls more than one meter thick. Together with the bastion following to the east, this large shell near the Burgplatz receives a fortress-like character. The round bowl towers clearly beyond the city wall which continues northwards and eastwards, giving a good view of the apron. 12 loopholes on two levels completed the defense of this bulwark. The large bowl on Burgplatz is accessible on the inside and freely accessible to everyone. The brick building in the background once served as a court jail and today houses the Criminal Panopticon. On the right side you can also see the tower of the St. Stephani Church.

About 15 of the original 51 towers and shells are still preserved, and 1.8 km of the 2.2 km total length are still preserved.

On the east side is a horseshoe-shaped bowl, open towards the city, with three lines of fire.
The whole is surrounded by a cup-like fountain bowl.
