The windbreak hedges typical of the Monschau villages served their purpose, especially in earlier times, during autumn and winter storms and protected the farmhouses behind them. Especially in the village of Höfen, the Heckendorf, you can admire many imposing and well-kept beech hedges, which are a special feature of the Monschau region.
