Sacred Heart Church Weimar
In the second half of the 19th century, the Weimar Catholic community had grown relatively rapidly, so that a new worship space was required. After long and sometimes difficult negotiations, a suitable building site was finally acquired: next to the former Lottenmühle, which had been bought as a rectory in 1887. The architect Max Meckel from Frankfurt was chosen as the master builder for the church, and he presented his design for the exterior in the Italian Renaissance style, as was a special request of the Grand Duke of Weimar. The direct model for the new church was the Florence Cathedral, from which Meckel took the shape of the dome and bell tower - two important focal points for the immediate vicinity of the church to this day. The church was inaugurated on September 27, 1891 by the Bishop of Fulda, Dr. Weyland.
The first renovation took place towards the end of the 1930s. On February 9, 1945, the northern aisle was damaged by bombs, but was quickly repaired after the end of the war. Several redesigns and renovations in recent decades have led to the current design and furnishings.

Since 1982, the church is a listed building. In 1988 she was renovated under the artistic direction of Horst yearling once again. After the turn, some remaining war damage could be repaired. It took place in 1998 a new painting, which was based on the original color scheme (Wikipedia).
