If you have experienced Rømø in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, you will surely remember the bathing beach as Denmark's widest motorway, with parking so close to the sea that the waves often lapped up to the wheels. But it is no longer like that. Rømø grows about 2 m to the west every year, and a new row of dunes forms on the beach. Therefore, almost the entire coast is a car-free beach.
At Lakolk Strand there is still 2 km of coastline, where everything is almost like old times and you can park close to the water. Here you can fly kites, build sandcastles, play ball and the wind makes your hair disheveled. If you want to watch windsurfers, you can find them on the northernmost part of Lakolk Strand. If dogs should be able to run freely, this is allowed in the dune area between the beach and the campsite.

You can reach the island of Rømø by car from the Danish mainland via a large 2-lane dam. On the island, simply drive straight ahead over a crossroads and (free of charge) directly to the water of the North Sea! A dream!
A very spacious beach, after all the widest in Europe. Long walks on the beach are worthwhile!
