Lakolk is the oldest seaside resort on Rømø. Bathers have been arriving here since 1898 and as early as 1895 there were the first small holiday homes here. From 1899 to 1940 Lakolk was the westernmost station of the small island railway, which operated from Kongsmark. The actual tourism on the island came however only with the opening of the Rømø dam, which was opened 1948.
Today, Lakolk has a nice holiday home area, a campsite and the so-called small coastal village, which is obligatory for so many Danish coastal villages. Here you can buy things of daily use, but also go for a stroll. There is a shop for kites or everything that flies in the sky, clothing stores, a shop with hand drawn candles and decoration as well as the typical ice cream shops. You can also eat. From hot dogs to steak leaves nothing to be desired.
In the parking lot in front of the Butikscenter is a feudal toilet house.
And of course not to forget: the infinitely wide sandy beach right outside the door. So wide that the cars are allowed on the beach. (But also walking, just takes longer; o))
