Cycling

The temple was originally built during the Ming Dynasty in 1511, and was recently refurbished. At present the temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. Upon entering through the main gate at the riverside, there are some older structures on the left, while straight ahead are newly constructed buildings that are designed according to the architectural styles of the Tang Dynasty (about 600 to 900 AD).
On the right is a small garden and large pagoda.
Entrance fee to the temple and garden is 20 RMB.

The monastery was originally built in 1511, during the Ming Dynasty, but was recently refurbished (looks completely new). The total area is about 12,000 sq meters. I did not go inside, other than stepping just inside the gate for some photos.

As of 2020, the temple is the largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. The large Mahavira Hall and the Hall of the Four Heavenly Kings still remain as they were originally built during the Ming dynasty. Upon entering the (now) main gate, these older structures are on the left.
Of the newly constructed structures after the 2005 renovation, a traditional vertical axis layout was imposed and the buildings were built according to the architectural style of the late Tang Dynasty (about 600 to 900 AD).
A large pagoda and garden are located on the right side from the main entrance.
