In the twelfth century, Tienen decided to build a second city wall, with a wall on the Oude Vestenstraat and the Borggracht dug in the south of the city. The "house" you find here is located on the Borggracht and is a lock building. The first version of the lock building was built in 1233 and was called the Nieuwe Ark or Roos.
