The lined ditch is a hydraulic engineering relic from 1426. At that time, there was a plan to divert the Röthenbach to Nuremberg. After construction began, it was noticed that the high costs were offset by a rather low benefit. Therefore, construction was stopped. 850 meters of the structure are still preserved (with interruptions). The lined ditch got its name from the fact that the ditch was lined with a layer of clay, which was intended to prevent the water from seeping into the ground.
