Hurvínek's bench has adorned the square near the Sand Gate under the castle since August 2023. It commemorates the puppeteer and puppeteer Gustav Nosek, who lived in Cheb between 1960 and 1974. The sculpture was created by the sculptor Miroslav Žáčok. In the Czech Republic, every child knows the stories of Spejbl and Hurvínek, the famous puppets by Josef Skupa. Spejbl was made in 1919/1920 by the Pilsen woodcarver Karel Nosek based on Skupa's designs. Hurvínek followed in 1926, made by Gustav Nosek, Karel Nosek's nephew. The core of most of the pieces are the dialogues between father Spejbl, who is often very confident in himself and his knowledge, and son Hurvínek, who challenges his father's self-confidence with appropriate questions.
