During the Inca period, Almirante Street belonged to the palace built for the Inca Huáscar, and with the arrival of the Spanish, the space was used to build a colonial mansion where various personalities lived, such as Viceroy José de la Serna and Admiral Francisco Alderete Maldonado, after whom it is named.

The palace was built here by the Inca Huáscar. Later it became the colonial villa of various personalities such as Viceroy José de la Serna (last Viceroy of Peru) and Admiral Francisco Alderete Maldonado. The street was named that way because of this admiral.

Currently this palace belongs to the National University of Cusco. The Inca Museum is housed there.

The Inca Museum is also known as the Admiral's House because it was built in the 17th century by Admiral Alderete Maldonado. It is located on a street named after the admiral, Cuesta del Almirante, 103, in Cusco, on the way from the Plaza de Armas to the Plaza Nazarenas.

It was badly damaged in the 1650 earthquake and rebuilt by Pedro Peralta de los Ríos, Count of Laguna, whose coat of arms is above the porch. Further damage from the 1950 earthquake has since been fully repaired, restoring the building to its place among Cuzco's most beautiful colonial houses.

THIS MUSEUM CONTAINS EVERYDAY OBJECTS SUCH AS POTTERY, TEXTILES, VASES, JEWELRY, QUEROS (CEREMONIAL INCA DRINKING VESSELS MADE OF WOOD) AND A LARGE NUMBER OF INCA MUMMIES. THE STATE MUSEUM IS OPERATED AND MANAGED BY THE SAN ANTONIO ABAD UNIVERSITY IN CUSCO.
