This NSG was created in 1997 on the area of a former biathlon stadium (the training facility "moved" to Zinnwald-Georgenfeld around 1985), which was no longer used and on which rare orchids then settled in the 1980s, 1990s, e.g. the broad-leaved cuckoo flower. Thereupon it was decided to change this area (cooling for amphibians) and to manage (mow) it, because otherwise everything would increase. Hiking

The 13.7 hectare area is bounded by a spruce forest in the north and lies parallel to the federal highway 170. In the east, the “Kleiner Galgenteich” campsite borders on the expansion area. A hiking trail runs around the nature reserve, forming the border to the south. The large and small gallows ponds are located behind it. Spruce forests also close off the extension area in the western part of the area.
