A column rises from its trough, which was renovated in the last century, on a base with 4 gargoyles. The eponymous “Miss” Melusine, a popular motif of the Renaissance, sits enthroned there.
Whether she stands as a symbol of life-giving water or is more closely linked to the literary model of an old French legend, according to which the mermaid was the herald of every impending disaster, remains to be seen.

In the octagonal basin, completely renewed in the 20th century, stands a baluster column with the Württemberg coat of arms and the city's tower coat of arms, as well as four water spouts. Atop the column sits the "maiden" that gives the fountain its name, a Melusine.
