The former palace hotel was built between 1903 and 1905 on the site of two old bathhouses. During excavation, the remains of a Roman thermal bath complex were discovered in the construction pit, proving that people had already bathed in hot water at this location in Roman times. The building quickly became one of Wiesbaden's major hotels, hosting numerous famous people during its heyday.
