The Nuremberg Armory, built in 1588/89 under the direction of Hans Dietmaier, once served as the imperial city's weapons arsenal. It replaced an older armory. The building, a sandstone block structure with striking curved gables and two flanking towers, was severely damaged during World War II and burned down in 1945. After reconstruction in 1954/55, the Armory now serves as a police station and houses, among other things, the Criminal Investigation Department.
