he armory at Pfannenschmiedsgasse 24 is the small remnant of a formerly large building complex of the penultimate city fortifications, which stretched as far as the Färberstraße. The arsenal was the head building to which several imperial city granaries were once attached.

The building was built in 1588/89 under the direction of foreman Hans Dietmaier as an arsenal of weapons. It replaced the armory that had been in the so-called "Pleidenhaus" (formerly Untere Talgasse 8) since 1383. With the "incorporation" of the free imperial city of Nuremberg into the Bavarian kingdom (1806), the armory also became state property. The armory was dissolved in 1866 after the fortifications were abolished. The adjoining halls served as a hop store until they were destroyed in World War II.

After the building burned down in a hail of bombs in 1945, it was rebuilt in 1954/55 along with the two towers on the east side. The two-storey building has served as a police station ever since.

It is also known as the "Hertie Guard" or "Apollo Guard": The armory served for a long time as a base for police officers on patrol duty. Not anymore - and yet the police are still the owners.
It is a remnant of a large building complex. Built between 1588 and 1589, the armory served as a weapons arsenal.

The old armory, which now houses the police advice center, is beautiful to look at.
