The construction of the dam to create the reservoir Schönbrunn is one of the major socialist projects in the former GDR. Construction period from 1967 to 1975, the final commissioning of the dam was in 1978. Thus, the remote water supply in southern Thuringia for today 230,000 consumers was secured. In addition, it serves the flood protection in the region. Structural feature of the dam: It is a stone dump with asphalt discharge. Length 260m, height 66m. The river Sluice is dammed up.

The dam of the dam is a stone dump with an asphalt concrete outer seal. The total area of the outer seal is 22,000 m². The sealing body (total thickness 30 cm) is made of a bituminous base layer with a lower and upper sealing layer and a drainage element in between, as well as a surface seal that serves to protect the surface of the sealing body.
