Located in via Montebello 78, it is also known as Villa Orlando, because it is inhabited by the family of the founder of the Luigi Orlando shipyard; it later became the seat of the Dal Borro College, and now houses a nursery and primary school of the Brin Comprehensive Institute.
It takes its name from the Marquis Marco Alessandro Dal Borro, Governor of Livorno from 1678 to 1701, who in 1682, on the initiative of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III dei Medici, oversaw the foundation of the "Case Pie" of Livorno subsidized by both the Grand Duke and the richest merchants in the city, with the aim of welcoming needy children and sailors' orphans free of charge.
This institution of the Pious Houses which hosted the "sailors" was maintained until the end of the 20th century: in 1958 it was transformed into a boarding school dedicated primarily to students who attended the city's Nautical Institute and finally into a public school.
The building, located within a beautiful park with tall trees and the school's sports facilities, looks more like a castle than a real villa: it consists of a main building of three floors (with the nursery school on the ground floor and the primary schools on the other two floors) with a central portico supporting a large balcony and two high towers.
