High above the old quarry that once produced the stones for the Leipzig Battle of the Nations Monument, the Beucha Mountain Church stands enthroned. The sacristy and tower of the church were built as early as 1284. The nave was added in the 19th century, giving the church its present form.
The quarry, which formerly bordered the church, was flooded after its closure and is now a bathing lake, bearing little trace of its mining past. Standing by the water here, you have a unique view of the church, which rises spectacularly from its granite base.
Worth a visit at any time of year.

This is the best starting point to go around the church break. A parking lot with the quarry information and a main view of the beautiful mountain church. This picture in the "highlight" shows an ancient photo taken from the information board.

The location of the church above the lake is a photo dream in every season. For this purpose, really informative boards were set up around the lake.

Excessive mining since the last quarter of the 19th century resulted in the church now standing on a mountain spur surrounded on three sides by a 3.5-hectare lake, as the quarry, abandoned in 1958, has filled with water. This charming location has made it one of the most photographed churches in the Leipzig region.
