The Füchtingshof is one of the outstanding aisles and courtyards in Lübeck's old town.

The founder Johann Füchting (1571-1637), Lübeck merchant and councilor, determined in his will, among other things, the establishment of a foundation "the poor for the benefit and the best".

The executors of the will fulfilled their wishes by buying the land in the Glockengießerstrasse and their building with the Füchtingshof, which was used for the free accommodation of widows and orphans. 1648 the Füchtingshof was handed over to its purpose.

The Füchtingshof has been partially preserved in its historical substance. In particular, the so-called Vorsteherzimmer in the courtyard house No.11 has received its present facilities already in 1653 and is considered the most beautiful interior of the 17th century in Lübeck.

Moreover, in the yard over the centuries has been built and rebuilt again and again, also to take into account the changed housing needs and to preserve the substance.

The apartments in the courtyard are still leased to single, needy ladies, with the rent level below the social rent.

The Füchtingshof is located on Glockengießerstraße below St. Catherine's Church.

It is now one of the largest and most magnificent foundation courtyards in Lübeck.

This listed early Baroque residential complex belongs to the Johann Füchting Testament Foundation, which still exists today as an independent foundation. Since 1639, it has served as a residential courtyard for the widows of sailors and merchants. A renovation in the 1970s created 28 apartments here. The courtyard's focal point is an outstanding building with a meeting room on the upper floor, the Overseer's Room.

This is considered the most beautiful 17th-century interior to be found in Lübeck. Today, it serves as a meeting room and memorial site in one:

Numerous original objects belonging to the founding couple can be seen here.

Johann Füchting (1571–1637), a native of Westphalia, achieved wealth and prestige as a merchant in Lübeck. He was a councilman, a member of the Scanian Voyages Association, and held numerous honorary positions.

Shortly before his death, he decreed that a portion of his fortune should go to the poor
and established a foundation. Executors implemented his plans
and acquired land on Glockengießerstraße, where the Füchtingshof was built.
The then city architect built 21 apartments, into which the widows of merchants and boatmen moved. The women were not only allowed to live rent-free, but were also given a few Lübeck marks every three months by the
      wardens.

Due to empty coffers, the foundation was on the verge of dissolution in the 1970s.

With financial support from, among others, the Possehl Foundation, the Füchtingshof was nevertheless fundamentally rebuilt from 1975 to 1977. Since 1976, the foundation has become a publicly subsidized social housing project. The Johann Füchting Testament Foundation was thus spared from dissolution.

The Füchtingshof is located at Glockengießerstraße 23-27.

One of 90 corridors and courtyards in Lübeck. Most of the corridors and courtyards are freely accessible and only a few are closed all day. However, many are locked overnight.
When visiting, it is also important to take into account the residents who design these corridors and courtyards and allow them to be visited.
