A beautiful, new rest area on the Emscher cycle path. I don't know why there are blue horses, but it looks nice and you can certainly have a nice picnic here with a larger group. The area is covered by a pergola, however, and is therefore not waterproof.

2023/24 redesigned Rastplast with tables, benches and sun protection. And the horses graze right next door.

In memory of the Emscherbrücher Dickköpper. The Emscherbrücher or Emscherbrücher Dickkopp was a wild domestic horse breed. Its existence was first mentioned in documents in 1369.[1] It was widespread in the Bruch along the Emscher between Waltrop and Bottrop until the beginning of the 19th century. The last Emscherbrücher were captured in the 1840s and sold to Duke Alfred von Croÿ in Dülmen. They thus formed the basis for breeding the Dülmen horse. Source:de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emscherbrücher
