Kasernstraße is a short, quiet alley in the northern island city, leading down from Kapuzinerstraße to the Regnitz riverbank and Fischerei. The name recalls Bamberg's long past as a garrison town: after secularization in 1803, almost all of the city's monasteries were used militarily, including the nearby Capuchin monastery. The buildings are typical for this quarter – simple Baroque and Biedermeier houses with sandstone frames, plastered facades, and a house Madonna on a corner. For the river path, the alley is primarily the connection between the Old Town Hall and Klein Venedig, away from the busy main axes.
