St. Paul is the former parish church of the Hanau district of Großauheim in the diocese of Fulda.
The church of St. Paul was built between 1905 and 1907 by the architect August Greifzu on a plot of land directly on the banks of the Main and consecrated on July 1, 1907 by Bishop Joseph Damian Schmitt. The imposing location also gave the church the nickname "Cathedral on the Main". It replaced the older church of St. Jakobus in the old town of Großauheim, which was preserved as a branch church.
