After the death of Baron de Borrekens, the Flemish government bought a number of meadows and groves and started the construction of an urban forest. Amphibian pools and fauna fields were created. The natural value increases year after year because the fields are transformed into fauna fields. ANB allows the intensive meadows to evolve into hay fields or wastine, an old medieval word for waste, infertile soil.
