The orange route through Wijvenheide lets you rediscover the history of fish farming, which is inextricably linked to De Wijers. Along the way you will come across many fish breeding ponds and you may even see the fishermen at work. Along the way you will learn more about Zonhoven's ancient fish farming tradition. From the watchtower you can admire the ponds just like the birds from above...Did you know that from afar the watchtower looks like a fish jumping out of the water? Be sure to stop at one of the bird hides and information walls, where you can get to know the birds of De Wijers in a playful way. This walking route is an absolute must to fully experience De Wijers.

Beautiful nature reserve where many birds have found their habitat. A bird watchers paradise.
Just enjoy what's going on in your field of view. Each season has its own protagonists. The seasons also give the landscape a different color and scent every time.
TIP: an insect spray is not an unnecessary luxury during your discovery of this humid nature reserve.
