    A beautiful little town.

The cleaned-up market square with its pretty houses is an absolute eye-catcher.

Altdorf near Nuremberg is a super nice town, a former university town, and definitely worth a visit.

Altdorf once housed the proud Academia Norica Altdorfina, namely from 1622 to 1809, the Nuremberg University at the gates of the imperial city - and thus the only imperial city university next to Strasbourg when it was founded. The philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz received his doctorate in both rights here in 1666 from Johann Wolfgang Textor, Goethe's great-great-grandfather; Albrecht Wenzel Eusebius von Waldstein (who later, during the Thirty Years War, would become famous under the name Wallenstein) fought here as a student; Johann Heinrich Schulze, who discovered the sensitivity of silver salts to light, taught here as a professor, as did the mathematician and astronomer Johannes Praetorius.
