But if you think of shimmering heat when you think of dunes, you are wrong - cutting cold winds and storms piled up mighty dunes here in Franconia during the last two ice ages, which shape the landscape to this day. Rivers and streams were dried up or frozen. Most of the dunes are now forested, and the streams and rivers have opened up a new course.

The Franconian Dune Path takes you into the little-known and quiet, sometimes harsh landscape that was created in the most recent geological epoch. It's worth getting to know them, and along the way, new insights and outlooks open up again and again.

The Franconian Dünenweg is divided into 5 stages, each of which you can reach by public transport. Of course, there are also overnight accommodations at the individual stage destinations.
