Of the city towers, only the Martinstor and the Hexenturm remain. The witch tower is part of the city wall built after 1200 AD. Witches were not burned in Ladenburg. The tower contained a windowless and doorless prison for thieves and other criminals not sentenced to death (Diebsturm) on the ground floor. The door, which can still be clearly seen from Wormser Strasse, was one floor higher. From there one was then lowered into the dungeon (also called a hole). A medieval-early modern latrine can also be seen on the north-east side. Thanks to generous donations from the people of Ladenburg, the Hexenturm has had its pointed roof again since 1987.
