The name Zirmgrat derives from the pine pines (Pinus cembra) that grow along the ridge and along the dry, warm and steep southern slopes. The tree species is actually typical of the Central Alps and it is here, due to the particular topographic and local climatic situation, to one of their northernmost deposits in the Alps.

Hiking
The hike over the Zirmgrat is always a rewarding tour with refreshments. If the round trip is too long, you can descend before the Falkenstein in the direction of Schönwies and walk back to Alatsee via Vils.
