The Mehlsack (originally the White Tower near St. Michael) is a defensive tower in Ravensburg built around 1425. The name comes from its white plaster and round shape.
The Mehlsack is located on the south-eastern edge at the highest point of the old town in the direction of the Veitsburg. With its height of 51 meters on the St. Christina slope above the city, it is a landmark of the city of Ravensburg that can be seen from afar. The platform of the tower was used by the citizens to control the Veitsburg area, which was in the hands of the bailiffs, the political opponents of the free imperial city, until the 17th century. The tower thus fulfilled a similar function to the sack tower in Warburg built in 1443 (Wikipedia).
