Several water-powered mills were built on the Enz as early as the 15th century. Among them was the Oberriexingen mill, built by Count Ludwig. In 1895, the manufacturer Karl Kaltschmid acquired the mill, had it demolished and a hydroelectric power station built in its place.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Neckarwerke Elektrizitätsversorgungs-AG, which owned the power station by then, decided to modernize it. While the new turbine installed in 1949 remained in operation, the two old turbines were shut down. A modern Kaplan tube turbine was installed in a side extension to the power house and put into operation in 1994. Since then, the power station has had an output of 350 kW and generates around 1.2 million kWh of electrical energy annually.

On the other side of the street, opposite the power station, is the former villa of the manufacturer Karl Kaltschmid. Today the volunteer fire brigade is there.

Nice power plant but a bit annoying with, for example, having to walk around the outside with a stand up board and carry the board
