My first thought when looking at this Bismarck tower: Holla, I've seen that before. And that's the way it is, almost.

This tower is one of 240 towers built in honor of the "Iron Chancellor" Otto von Bismarck, who died in 1898, not only in Germany, in parts of Europe (France, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, parts of which were still part of the German Empire at that time) but even overseas (one each in Chile, Cameroon, Papua New Guinea and Tanzania).

This tower is one of 47 towers, all of which were built according to the "Götterdämmerung" design by the architect Wilhelm Kreis.

And they all look more or less the same, mostly only differing slightly in terms of dimensions. You can find them in Stuttgart, Bonn, Heidelberg, Dresden, Erfurt, Wuppertal, ...

This one is 17.5 m high, was inaugurated in 1902 and can be climbed as a lookout tower.

Yes, that's right, this Bismarck Tower also has the typical architectural design. And yes, it's worth climbing the 70 steps up the spiral staircase and enjoying the view!

In fact, one recognizes the "Bismarck towers" from afar, once you have seen a few.
