The Protestant Nunkirche (Nuwe Kirche, new church) is a Romanesque pilgrimage church and one of the most striking landmarks of the Hunsrück Heights.
The original church was built around the turn of the first millennium by order of Archbishop Willigis of Mainz to assert Mainz's claims to the Hunsrück region against the Electors of Trier. It was first mentioned in 1072 as the private church of the Bertholde family of counts.

The Nunkirche is considered the mother church of the nearby Ravengiersburg Monastery. In the Middle Ages, courts of the hundred families (Zentgericht = jurisdiction by the centgraf for a region of approximately 100 families, i.e., a hundred) were held in the open air. The church itself developed into a pilgrimage church with a patron saint of St. Rochus (protection of a saint). It was granted parish church status as early as the Middle Ages.

The 12-stop organ was built in 1886 by the Stumm family of organ builders from Hunsrück.
